Local Interest

North Berwick has been welcoming visitors since 950 AD, when pilgrims first crossed the waters of the Firth of Forth to St. Andrews in Fife. Winner of the prestigious Rosebowl Award for Best Coastal Town in Scotland in both 2009 and 2007, this popular resort has year-round appeal.

The town has two golf courses, with several more nearby, a sports centre with a swimming pool, long sandy beaches and much more. Muirfield Golf Course - venue for the 2013 British Open Championship - is just a few minutes drive away.

The nearby island of Craigleith is the summer breeding ground for many thousands of puffins, and the adjacent Bass Rock is home to some 100,000 gannets, as well as many other seabirds. Daily boat trips in summer take visitors around these islands, where they can often see dolphins and seals as well.

North Berwick is 35 minutes by train from the centre of Edinburgh, with its many visitor attractions, including Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, as well as Edinburgh’s International Festival and Fringe, and the Edinburgh Film Festival.
